9/17/07 - 4th Annual Women's Health Research Conference

-The Deborah E. Powell Center for Women's Health proudly presents-
4th Annual Women's Health Research Conference

Hot Topics in Mature Women's Health

The 4thAnnual Women’s Health Research Conference was held on Monday September 17, 2007 at the McNamara Alumni Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota from 9am to 3pm. The conference drew over 250 participants including physicians, nurses, and students.  Dr. Nancy Fugate Woods from the University of Washington gave a captivating keynote speech on menopause and healthy aging. Other lecture topics included breast cancer, cardiovascular health, mental health, and osteoporosis.  This year, we had a record number of over 80 abstract submissions for our poster session, and 20 community and university organizations participated in the resource fair. The resource fair gave attendees a chance to network with other women’s health organizations and be informed of the many diverse resources surrounding women’s health issues. Preliminary analysis of the conference evaluations reflects several positive reactions to this year’s conference.  The objectives of the 2007 conference were:

  • Highlight the national priorities in women’s health research.
  • Educate on mature women’s health hot topics.
  • Match senior faculty with junior researchers who are interested in pursuing gender-specific research.
  • Highlight depth and breadth of research on women’s health by providing time for peer reviewed abstracts of research in the region.
  • Provide a women’s health resource fair to facilitate networking between University and Community partners.
